Customizing TinyMCE Buttons in Drupal 5

UPDATE: The TinyMCE module has been updates - the "button visibility" settings are back. This post is now obsolete! 

While Drupal 5 was a great improvement, the latest version of the TinyMCE module for Drupal took away a very useful feature - the button configuartor-thingy. In the Drupal 4.7 version of the TinyMCE module, the site admin could pick and choose which buttons they wanted TinyMCE to display - something that I found very handy and used often (mostly to protect my clients from themselves).

When Drupal 5 came out, the lack of the button configuator-thingy was disheartening, instead we got 3 choices for TinyMCE buttons: "full", "compact", and "simple". While the "full" and "simple" choices were more than adequate, the "compact" selection wasn't what I was expecting:
